What is AI (artificial intelligence) is an umbrella term that covers a range of capabilities involving computers and computer programs, among them voice recognition, contextually aware interactions, and pattern identification (including facial recognition).
Machine learning (ML) is the scientific study of algorithms and statistical models that computer systems use to perform specific tasks without explicit instructions from human programmers, relying on patterns and inference instead. Machine learning is seen as a subset of artificial intelligence.
Just as mass production and factory automation radically transformed manufacturing processes in factories during the Industrial Age, AI is looked to as the next movement that will dramatically transform an increasingly technology-dependent modern civilization.
